Nature of Things and Jardín are pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by Ewelina Bochenska, opening Thursday, July 2nd at Jardin, 2608 Dunlavy St, Houston, TX 77098.
Bochenska’s vibrant paintings are at once mystical and physical. Bochenska describes painting as a spiritual discovery, each work revealing itself in the making. Physically, the surfaces of the paintings are heavily layered, sometimes painted on unusual materials that give shape to the surface in another way, such as leather or fabric (even on her grandmother’s shirt). The color and imagery in Bochenska’s work nods to traditional Polish folk art and patterns, which is filled with brightly colored, symbolic natural imagery and embroidery.
